Discontent in DRDO

There is widespread resentment among the Defence Research and Development Organisation officials.

Reason: While the retirement age for all Central government employees has been raised, theirs remain the same.

Earlier this year, the Union Cabinet had pushed the limit for retirement by two years. But that for the DRDO personnel is still 57 years.

The Delhi high court had in July stayed the retirement order of a DRDO major general.

Unless the age-limit is raised, other officers due for retirement in the coming months would also seek court intervention, sources said.

The Department of Personnel and Training had on May 13 issued a memorandum to all ministries and departments, asking them to implement the enhanced age limit.

This was applicable to all Central employees, including the armed forces personnel. Of the three departments of the defence ministry, two - the departments of defence production and supplies, and defence -- have already implemented the decision.
