Bardhan re-elected CPI general secretaryThe Communist Party of India has unanimously re-elected A B Bardhan as general secretary for another term of three years. The 125-member new national council of the party, elected at the 17th party congress on Saturday in Madras, met on Sunday morning to re-elect Bardhan. A 31-member national executive was also elected at the meeting. Besides Bardhan, the national executive includes former home minister Indrajit Gupta, former agriculture minister Chaturanan Mishra, P K Vasudevan Nair, Gita Mukherjee, V V Raghavan, Veliyam Bhargavan, R Nallakanmnu, Sudhakar Reddy, Atul Anjan and Bhogendra Jha. The executive will meet in Delhi next month to elect a nine-member new party secretariat, CPI national secretary Doraiswamy Raja said. UNI
