Final hearing on Presidential reference from October 7

The final hearing on the Presidential reference to the Supreme Court regarding the appointments of judges to the apex court and high courts will begin from October 7.

The reference had raised nine questions of law in regard to the ''consultative process'' to be followed by the chief justice of India while recommending such appointments.

The date was fixed today by a nine-judge Constitution bench, headed by Justice Adarsh Sein Anand before which the reference is pending for disposal.

The court made it clear that in no case the hearing would be allowed to go beyond October 15.

The court directed the parties concerned to file their written submissions by September 22.
