H K Bhasin replaces L C Jain as envoy to SA

India's high commissioner to South Africa, L C Jain, has finally been replaced.

An official announcement in New Delhi today said Harsh Kumar Bhasin, currently consul general of India in New York, has been appointed the new high commissioner to South Africa.

Jain was appointed by the I K Gujral government, and soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government came to power, there were reports that Jain has been asked to resign his post.

He has been replaced just a few days after the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Durban earlier this month.
