India will block all attempts to internationalise Kashmir: Brajesh Mishra

Upset over United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's equation of Kashmir with the deadlocked peace process in Cyprus, Brajesh Mishra, principal secretary to the prime minister, has said India will block all attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue.

In a television interview, Mishra said, ''There is an attempt to internationalise the Kashmir issue... We will block all such attempts.''

Reacting to Annan's views, officials sources at the foreign ministry noted that this was not the first time that the UN secretary general had made a reference to the issue in his annual report.

The sources said India would react to Annan's observation at an ''appropriate time''.
