Professor Chandy passes away

Professor K M Chandy, former governor of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Pondicherry, died at a private hospital in Kochi, Kerala, early on Monday.

He was 77. He is survived by his wife, eight sons and two daughters.

A former president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, Professor Chandy was under treatment for the last two weeks.

He was imprisoned during the freedom struggle.

Elected to the state assembly twice, Professor Chandy began his career as an English teacher at the St Thomas college, Palai. He later became the head of the English department.

He had also served as president of the All Kerala Private College Teachers Association.

The funeral will take place at the St Thomas Cathedral cemetery in Palai on Tuesday.
