Pak shells kill woman in Kargil

A woman was killed when Pakistani troops fired artillery and mortar shells on Indian positions in Kargil sector on Wednesday evening.

An official spokesman said the unprovoked firing took place in Ladakh region. About 17 shells exploded in Goma village, killing Fahtema. Some houses and standing crops were also damaged.

The spokesman said some shells also landed on the Srinagar-Leh national highway to disrupt traffic for some time.

Pak troops have been firing mortars and artillery shells on Indian positions in Kargil for the past fortnight. Many people living near the Line of Control have migrated to other places.

Reports from Jammu, meanwhile, said army personnel shot dead a civilian, mistaking him for a militant, Friday morning. The incident occurred in the Laran Mandi area of Poonch district.
