India resents Clinton's advice to Russia on ceasing defence aidIndia today took strong exception to US President Bill Clinton's plea to Russia to stop supply of critical defence equipment to New Delhi, stating that co-operation between the two countries was transparent and did not violate any international agreements. An external ministry spokesperson said India had a good record of relations with Russia on the transfer of technology and that there is no way Moscow would rescind them unilaterally. Reacting to Clinton's suggestion to Moscow during his talks with Russian President Boris Yeltsin, the spokesperson said defence co-operation between the two countries was not directed against any third nation. The United States had opposed the supply of equipment for the 200 MW nuclear power plant being set up at Koodankulam in Tamil Nadu, but Russia brushed it aside and went ahead with the signing of the agreement for the project recently.
