Wodeyar moves high court seeking possession of Mysore palace

Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, scion of the Mysore royal family, has filed a writ petition in the Karnataka high court seeking a direction to the state government to hand over possession of the Mysore palace and other properties to him in compliance with an earlier high court order.

In the petition, which is yet to be admitted, he contended that notwithstanding the recent Mysore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act, the earlier high court order directing the government to hand over the palace and other possessions to him still stayed.

In a statement in Mysore yesterday, Wodeyar alleged that the state government had enacted the recent legislation with "malafide" intentions and termed the "public purpose" stated in the act as a "pious fraud and a sham pretence".

The act amounted to interference in the administration of justice, he contended.
