Subject: Kudos to Advani for fighting terrorism

Finally we seem to have a government that means business when dealing with these murderous Bs. These thugs understand only one language, and that is ruthlessness. Mr Advani deserves the thanks of the people of India. It is time the ISI networks in India are destroyed.

I think Mr Gandhi raises a very interesting point about rights being inherently tied to responsibility. Pradeep Dalvi's piece may be historically incorrect as he suggests; but that still is not sufficient reason to justify the ban. I fail to see how it incites hatred or goes against the "social contract" on which democracy is built.

History is not a science as it involves interpretation of known facts. The main flaw in Mr Gandhi's article is that although his arguments about social responsibility and rights being related are right, he fails to convince how they are applicable in Dalvi's case.

Interesting interview. The people make a country. We need to provide opportunities for the people. The rest will follow. The way to do it would be through a free market society, where restrictions on everything is minimised.

If you visit the US, you will see that the involvement of the government in day-to-day affairs is almost nil. We should look at minimising the involvement of goverment on everything in India. That would create growth opportunities and society will become vibrant.

The curse of India is the politicisation of every awake moment of an India citizen. This should stop. The newspapers can be a good catalyst to that by not covering politics, but have the pages filled with realities of life, the deficiencies, future visions for the country. The way our newspapers work is pretty Pathetic. Politics fills up the space. This need to stop, and discussions on job growth, infrastructural development, quality of life, etc. need to take it's place.

It seems to me that the Burmese government fooled our army, convincing it that these people are supplying arms to North-East militants. The truth may not come out for you and me, but the guilty must be put on trial at least in camera and punished.

Going by the experience of the LTTE and Afghan militants, I do not think any liberation force is in the business of only liberating their homeland, and not involved in drug or arms smuggling. I take it with a pinch of salt that such armies are sane forces. While secrecy should be maintained for all military operations around India by our forces, there must be an internal mechanism in the army to punish the guilty for such massacres.

Clearly, the funding of the project did not provide for the "integrative" activities that would make the institutes capable of collaboration. This is not an uncommon problem in IT implemenation. Buy the software and the hardware and it will work itself out. Since Jajjoo appears to be championing the project, I say give him all the money and let him initiate the activities.

Good story, informative and well-researched. Would like to see more of the same. But the follow-up should tell a positive tale.

Hi,

I really pity the people at DoT if they selected CDMA instead of DECT, ignoring the technical capabilities and just considering the frequency range. And it is really a shame to the country if you are not ready to accept the inventions by own people. This is the another strong reason for the brain drain from India.

A very well written article. Like most South Indians, I used to go to Matunga almost every weekend -- either to eat or for 'South Indian' shopping. The article almost took me there again.

Keep up the good work!

Subject: A R Rahman

Every musician has his own style. From the work that Rahman has produced, to think that he is predictable is in a way demeaning his artistry. But if there is a sort of repetition and similarities with other musical works of the past, then one need to blame it on the mass production that our movie industry demands. We cannot expect people to be prolific and creative like Isaac Asimov and his sci-fi books. It is rare, though not impossible. With brand name, money and opportunities that flow in, it is difficult to resist the offers. And work tends to become monotonous.

Personally, if I like the music, I listen to it. Else I will go for something else. As a listener I have a wide variety to chose from. I don't waste time over trying to bring someone's works into some predefined patterns and criticise them for their lack of talent/proliferation.

In interviews, try to focus on more positive aspects rather than harping on such track.
