E-Mail this report to a friend

A junior commissioned officer was killed and a jawan injured when militants blew up an army vehicle at Safa-Pora village in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning.

About a dozen jawans escaped unhurt in the blast.

Two jawans were also injured in another militant attack in down town city today.

A defence ministry spokesman said the militants used a powerful improvised explosive device in the blast, which took place at about 2.30 am. The troops were on their way to the Safa-Pora village on a tip-off to nab militants hiding there.

In another incident, militants fired upon a security force patrol party at Nowhatta in down town city this morning with automatic weapons, injuring two jawans. The area has been cordoned off and a search launched to nab the militants.
