As Sushma goes on night patrols, Delhi lt-governor lauds police for fighting crime

Barely two days after the suspension of a Station House Officer on the complaint of Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj, lt governor Vijai Kapoor has lauded the police for checking crime in the city.

According to a Raj Niwas release, Kapoor visited the Sultanpur police station on Friday following a complaint by the local legislator that the law and order situation in the area had collapsed.

But Kapoor found that the allegations were baseless as the incidence of various crime had in fact come down in the area as compared to last year and the percentage of cases worked out by police had gone up.

''The L-G complimented the SHO and other police staff for their good work,'' the release said.

Anjani Kumar, SHO of Kalyanpuri in East Delhi, was suspended on Wednesday after he was found missing at the station by Swaraj, who made a surprise visit to various police stations the previous night to check the functioning of the police.

The suspension of the SHO had reportedly been resented by the force which felt that the chief minister was encroaching upon the jurisdiction of the lt governor and the home ministry.
