New system power plants handed over to NPC

E-Mail this report to a friend

An indigenous system meant to simplify the work of power plant operators and help nuclear power plants was handed over to Dr Y S R Prasad, chairman and managing director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited yesterday.

The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System manufactured by the Hyderabad-based Electronics Corporation of India Limited for switchyard and power equipment was jointly developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, NPC and ECIL. The technology and know-how for such products are normally denied to the developing countries by the West.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prasad, lauded the fact that despite the international control regime, the electrical SCADA system had been developed and manufactured in a very short time. He called upon ECIL to explore the possibility of entering the international market with such systems.

With the government sanctioning bigger and more complex plants, he said it was necessary to develop state-of-the-art control and instrumentation systems for these plants, a ECIL release said.
