A Congress activist and an army personnel were among the six killed in Jammu and Kashmir during the last 24 hours.

The jawan was killed when militants attacked an army patrol at Rajopora in South Kashmir late Wednesday night. A counter insurgent was also killed in the incident.

An army spokesman said Mohammad Yousuf, a Congressman, was shot by militants at Badasgam in Anantnag district.

Security forces shot dead one militant each at Lolab and Marmath in the same district Wednesday evening.

In Jammu, meanwhile, a Border Security Force personnel was killed Wednesday night when Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing.

Manu Singh sustained a bullet injury at around 0800 hours. He was evacuated to the army hospital at Jammu, where he succumbed to injuries.

A BSF spokesman said the firing at Maljadha in Pargwal sub-sector continued well into the day.

It was not immediately known if the Rangers also suffered casualties in retaliatory firing, the spokesman said.
