E-Mail this report to a friend

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has transferred Badaun District Magistrate A N Saxena and suspended six senior officials, including a sub-divisional magistrate, for laxity of duty.

The chief engineer, UP Electricity Board, Bareilly zone, chief medical superintendent of the district hospital and the Dataganj tahsildar are among the suspended.

The action came during Kalayan Singh's surprise visit to the district. During the day-long inspection, he visited the district hospital, a police station, the block development office and the tahsil office. He also met the locals.

Anandvardhan has been appointed as the new district magistrate.

At the district hospital, the chief minister found emergency wards without lights, the operation theatre locked and the stock register of life saving drugs without entries since September 5. The store-keeper was also suspended along with the chief medical superintendent.

Kalyan Singh listened to the patients' complaints, and asked authorities to install a high capacity generator for the hospital.
