Indian bride murdered on Colombo seafront

An Indian bride honeymooning with her Sri Lankan husband was found slain on a beach, the police said today.

"The motive was rape and it looks like the work of sex maniacs,'' said Riency Perara, a police spokesman. Investigators found the mutilated body of 29-year-old Rita Jone Manoharan early today.

Manoharan was kidnapped by four men while strolling with her husband on the Colombo seafront on Sunday. Her husband, Jude Manoharan, was beaten by the assailants, Perara said.

Manoharan, a sailor, first met his wife in Bombay and they married last month. They arrived in the Sri Lankan capital a week ago.

The police arrested one person yesterday and he has given the names of three other suspects, Perara said.
