A politician rides shanks' mare

It was an unusual sight that residents of Shalimar Vidhan Sabha constituency in Delhi met with on Monday. Former chief minister and their elected representative Sahib Singh Verma Travelling by bus to reach his low income group flat in Shalimar Bagh.

Unlike most of the capital's political gentry who hold on to their perks long after ceasing to occupy office, Verma gave up his official bungalow and vehicle within hours of demitting office.

Moved by his gesture, Verma's constituents on Tuesday gifted him an Ambassador car and a Maruti Gypsy for campaigning in the constituency for the November 25 assembly elections.

Accepting the vehicles, Verma said he would utilise them only during electioneering, and would return them as soon as the elections were over. Now if only others of his ilk followed his example.
