Change in leadership with an eye on the future, says Sushma
Delhi's new chief minister Sushma Swaraj
today said the change in the leadership had nothing to do with
problems like rising prices in the capital over the past few months,
but was done keeping the future in mind.
Addressing a battery of reporters inside her chamber in the
secretariat soon after the swearing-in ceremony, Swaraj said
the Bharatiya Janata Party would have won the elections even under the
leadership of Sahib Singh Verma, but the change was necessitated
as the party wanted to project her as the leader in Delhi. The
former chief minister was also present at the interaction with the media.
''The prices of onions and certain other issues were not linked
with the change in leadership here,'' she said, however, adding
that with the supply of 18,000 tonnes of onions in the market,
the prices were likely to crash soon.
Asked about the role of Sahib Singh now, Swaraj said his
utility was not only as a chief minister, but also as a senior
leader of the BJP. He carried a nationwide importance for the party,
she added.
Refuting charges that there was any factionalism within the Delhi
unit of the BJP, the chief minister said all party leaders were
united and the elections would be fought in close coordination with
Union Parliamentary Minister Madanlal Khurana and Sahib Singh.
She promised to start from where her predecessor had left off.
