E-Mail this report to a friend

Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief Rajendra Singh suddenly took ill today and was taken off the dais midway through the inaugural function of the Akhil Bharatiya Kalasadhak Sangam (cultural festival ) organised by the RSS-ally Sanskar Bharati .

A group of volunteers rushed towards him as the 76-year-old Professor Singh complained of breathing problems after being on the dais for nearly two hours. He was helped down the dais and was taken to the RSS headquarters in central Nagpur.

This happened minutes after film producer Ramanand Sagar finished his address.

Meanwhile, a Sanskar Bharati official announced that Professor Singh was having breathing problems and advised the audience to sit through the proceedings.

Professor Singh took over as RSS chief in March 1994. Of late, he has not been keeping good health, according to RSS sources.

Over 5,000 artists and delegates from all over the country have assembled in Nagpur to participate in the three-day festival being held at the RSS's Reshimbagh ground.
