BSF arrests Pak spy on Kutch border

E-Mail this report to a friend

In a major breakthrough, the Border Security Force arrested a Pakistani spy, Amba Hira Koli, most wanted by the Kutch police since August this year, from near Kala Dungar on the northern Indo-Pakistani borders in Kutch district.

Koli was instrumental in arranging his sensational escape, along with that of five other Pakistani accomplices, from the high- security Joint Interrogation Centre in Bhuj on the night of August 31, sources said today. The Kutch police had so far been unable to trace any of them.

The BSF personnel arrested Koli near Nir Vandh outpost in the Great Rann of Kutch while he was trying to sneak into Pakistan. He was carrying Rs 600 in Pakistani currency. Official sources believe this could be his second or third trip to Kutch after his escape from the JIC four months ago.

Originally belonging to the Banaskantha district of Gujarat, Amba Hira Koli had settled in village Zulo of Mirpur district in the Sindh province of Pakistan.

Official sources said Koli's arrest might reveal his local contacts who sheltered and helped the six Pakistanis escape in August.

Meanwhile, security had been tightened around the JIC where Koli had been lodged again, sources added.
