E-Mail this report to a friend

The newly-elected Congress members of the Delhi assembly today authorised Congress president Sonia Gandhi to choose the party's legislature party chief.

A resolution to this effect was adopted unanimously at a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party.

The resolution was moved by former Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch Prem Singh and seconded by veteran party leader Tajdar Babbar and others.

The Congress has won 51 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly.

The CLP meeting, which was held at the All-India Congress Committee headquarters in the capital, passed a resolution, thanking Gandhi for leading the party to victory in the assembly election by campaigning vigorously and providing inspiration to the rank and file.

Through another resolution, the members thanked the electorate of Delhi for reposing faith in the party.

DPCC president Shiela Dikshit presided over the meeting.
