Three militants and a police constable were among the five people killed while security forces captured a militant leader and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours.

An official spokesperson said security forces recovered eight AK-56 rifles, two grenade launchers, 45 improvised explosive devices, 25 grenades and two wireless sets at Tilpatheri in north Kashmir last evening.

A driver of the Jammu and Kashmir police, who was injured in a recent mine blast at Anantnag, died this morning in hospital.

Unidentified militants shot dead one Mohammad Shafi at Budhal while a militant was gunned down by forces at Rajouri last night, the spokesperson said.

Two foreign militants were killed by forces in Baramulla last evening, and two AK-56 rifles, two grenades and one wireless set were recovered from them, he added.

The police arrested a militant 'platoon commander' at Nowpora last evening and recovered one universal machine gun from him, he said.

A youth posing as a militant sought entry into a hotel near Srinagar and snatched a camera and other valuables from an American tourist this morning. However, the police swung into action and arrested him. A toy pistol was also recovered.
