E-Mail this report to a friend

A Delhi court has permitted former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao to go abroad for treatment.

While granting permission, Special Judge V B Gupta asked him to furnish a surety of Rs 50,000 and to submit his passport on arrival till January 31,1999.

Rao, who has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, is a diabetic with ischemic heart disease. He has been checked by Professor K Louis of Berth Israel Hospital of Boston, USA, and diagnosed to undergo carotid endorterectomy of left side.

Rao is currently facing trial in the controversial Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MPs' bribery and the Lakhubhai Pathak cheating cases. The judge has also directed Rao to promise not to meet or influence any witnesses abroad.
