HC asks Romesh Sharma to file separate pleas for quashing of FIRs

The Delhi high court today directed gangster Dawood Ibrahim aide Romesh Sharma to file separate petitions seeking quashing of four first information reports registered against him and restraining the Delhi police from circulating 'wrong media reports' as the prayers on distinct offences cannot be clubbed together.

A division bench comprising Justices Devinder Gupta and N G Nandi expressed its inability to hear the prayers of Sharma in one petition as they were on distinct offences and on separate grounds.

''You can't club all your grievances in one petition. You can file separate petitions regarding separate FIRs and other prayers,'' the bench said.

''Prima facie we are of the view that it would not be permissible to club all the prayers in one petitions when they were regarding separate FIRs and on different grounds,'' the judges observed.

It directed Suhail Khan, counsel for Romesh, to file the separate petitions, if he so wished, by November 24, the next date of hearing in the matter.

The four FIRs - Numbers 801, 80, 803 and 807 -- sought to be quashed by Sharma pertained to violations of the Wildlife Protection Act, the Excise Act and the Arms Act and a complaint made against him regarding certain cases of misappropriation of property in Connaught Place, Palam Vihar and Anand Niketan areas of Delhi.

Sharma had also made prayers regarding the seizure of 14 cars and certain property and restraining the police from circulating wrong and vague reports to media in his case.

The politician-businessmen was arrested on October 28 by the Delhi police in connection with amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income, kidnapping and forcible possession of certain properties.

Later, the Central Bureau of Investigation also registered case against him for getting a passport for the mother of Dawood Ibrahim and acquisition of helicopter through fraudulent means.
