Congress does well in state council elections

The Congress party has consolidated its hold in Maharashtra by winning six seats, while the Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party and an independent have won one seat each to the state legislative council, as per the results declared so far.

The results of Amravati and Aurangabad constituencies are yet to be declared.

Following is the list of Congress candidates elected to the legislative council. Vishuanna Patil was declared elected from Sangli Satara local authority constituency. Patil polled 353 votes, defeating his nearest rival Pandurang Parte an independent supported by the Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party, who polled 109 votes.

At Nanded local authority constituency, Kamal Kishor Kadam was declared elected by polling 251 votes and defeating his nearest rival, Kisanrao Rathod, by 92 votes. In the local authority constituency of Yavatmal, Dr Nuruddin Hirani won the seat by 210 votes defeating Surekha Mutha of the Sena by 37 votes.

Gopaldas Agarwal was declared elected from the Bhandara local authority constituency. He polled 122 votes against his rival, Dr Prakash Malgave of the BJP who polled 78 votes.

The Nagpur Teachers constituency was won by Vishwanath Umaji Daigavhane, a Congress supported sitting independent MLC who polled 11,320 votes against Dipak Gokhale, who polled 8247 votes.

In Pune local authority constituency, Prof Ramkrishna More of the Congress was declared elected by polling 401 votes and defeating Shrikant shirole of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi by a margin of 265 votes.

Suresh Moreshwar, an independent candidate was declared elected to the council representing Konkan Teachers constituency.

At Nashik constituency, Pratapdada Sonawane of the BJP polled the highest number of votes, 27,185, defeating his nearest rival Gulabrao Bhosale, a Congress supported independent, by 16310 votes.

Sharad Wani of the Sena has been elected from Jalgaon local authority constituency by a margin of 146 votes. He defeated his Congress rival J T Mahajan.
