Be good, Pawar tells Bombayites

E-Mail this report to a friend

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sharad Pawar on Saturday urged Bombayites to channelise their cosmopolitan, enterprising and disciplined nature in a more proactive manner so that the city, fraught with extortions and killings, regains its past glory.

In his opening remarks at the first meeting of prominent citizens to discuss law and order situation, Pawar said, ''As responsible citizens, we cannot be helpless bystanders. There has been gross mismanagement and mal-administration by the state government. We need to take the government to task for their acts of commission and omission.

"However, our duty does not end there. We also have to think of ways in which we as citizens can contribute to bring back to Bombay its lost glory,'' he told a gathering of representatives of traders, hoteliers, doctors, lawyers and others at the Y B Chavan Centre in south Bombay.

The former chief minister maintained that the meeting was strictly ''non political.'' He said that within a few days he would submit a report to Governor Dr P C Alexander and urge him to convene a meeting with the government.
