Pak to sign CTBT, NPT unconditionally

E-Mail this report to a friend

Islamabad will sign both the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the Non-Proliferation Treaty unconditionally.

In an interview to Moscow daily Nezavsimaya Gazeta, Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz said on Thursday that since his country had already carried out nuclear tests and restored balance with India, there was no need for it to refrain from signing the treaties any longer.

Aziz talked on a wide range of issues concerning Pakistan's nuclear power.

He said Pakistan had enough nuclear weapons and fissile material.

Commenting on the interview, Moscow's official radio Voice of Russia noted that the statement coincided with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief's forthcoming meeting with United States President Bill Clinton, in December.
