India fits Mirage 2000 with night-flying capability

The Indian Air Force is upgrading its fleet of Mirage 2000 known as the Vajra, by infusing new technology including night-flying capability.

Speaking to the media at the Gwalior air base, air-officer- commanding-in-chief, central air command, Air Marshal V K Bhatia said the new technology, which was totally indigenous, would augment the Vajra's penetration power and striking capability.

Elaborating this, Air Commodore S P Ahluwalia, air-officer- commanding, Gwalior base, said ever since their delivery from France, modifications were made and new features have been added.

The pivot of these was the night-flying capability, which at one stroke gave the air force a big advantage, he said. Now these fighter jets regularly carry out night sorties, which gives India a cutting edge over its neighbours, he added.

Second, next to France, India is the only country which can boast of having complete overhauling facility for the Mirage 2000, he said. This has been done with enormous success.
