RJD's Bihar bandh call evokes partial response

E-Mail this report to a friend

The dawn to dusk 'Bihar bandh' sponsored by the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal and its ally, the Samajwadi Party to protest the spiralling price rise of essential commodities evoked partial response today.

Official sources in Patna said about 200 bandh supporters had so far been detained in several parts of the state for obstructing vehicular traffic. However, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the state so far, they added.

The sources said several RJD activists were taken into custody when they tried to block the Gandhi bridge connecting the state capital with north Bihar this morning.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was thin in the state capital while markets and business establishments kept their shutters down. Schools and colleges were also closed for the day but attendance in government offices and bank was normal.

RJD party office sources in Patna claimed the bandh was total and peaceful. Railways, airlines and medical shops were exempted from the bandh.
