Panthers to support Congress

E-Mail this report to a friend

The National Panthers Party will support the Congress in the forthcoming assembly elections in Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

If the Bharatiya Janata Party continues in power, NPP president Bhim Singh argued while announcing the decision, the break-up of Jammu and Kashmir is inevitable.

"The BJP leadership is clandestinely supporting the Dixon plan to create a buffer Muslim state," he said at a press conference in New Delhi. "It has allowed American intervention in Kashmir, thus threatening the security of the state."

"We have decided not to contest the assembly elections, but will vigorously campaign for the success of Congress nominees. An eleven-member election campaign group will be formed to expose the BJP government," he added.

Several members of his party, including P C Mehte, Gian Singh Gian, Punam Pal, and Dr A C Chawala, were present at the press conference.

Bhim Singh said only the Congress could lead a battle against the BJP alliance and save the country from chaos, disorder, and communalism.

Prof Singh appealed to all secular and nationalist forces to extend support to the Congress. He accused the BJP of communalising the political atmosphere and openly encouraging black-marketers and hoarders.

India's prestige among Third World countries has touched the lowest point, he said.
