State labour minister withdraws resignation

E-Mail this report to a friend

Karnataka Labour Minister B Satyanarayana today withdrew his resignation from the Patel ministry as well as from the state assembly.

He had tendered his resignation following the violent incidents that claimed six lives in Sira in Tumkur district on October 28.

Satyanarayana, who represents Sira, told newspersons that he had reversed his decision following pressure from local leaders.

Chief Minister J H Patel, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and party state president B L Shankar had also urged him not to resign, he added.

Satyanarayana said he had submitted his resignation because he was deeply distressed over violence that broke out following a steep slump in groundnut prices. He still held the district authorities responsible for the incidents.

He was happy that a judicial inquiry and a house committee probe had been ordered into the incidents and the superintendent of police against whom he had complained had been transferred.
