Sukh Ram threatens to pull out of HP government

E-Mail this report to a friend

Himachal Vikas Congress president and former Union communication minister Sukh Ram today said all HVC ministers would resign from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in Himachal Pradesh by November 5 if a CBI inquiry was not ordered into the charges against former chief minister Virbhadra Singh.

''If they do not hold the CBI inquiry, we are at liberty to contest or support any candidate in the Baijnath assembly by-election scheduled for November 25,'' he said in Solan.

Sukh Ram said he would resign from the post of chairman of the employment generation and resource mobilisation committee. He said he met Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal recently in this regard.

This followed a party meeting in Shimla which authorised Sukh Ram to take a suitable decision about whether the HVC should contest the Baijnath seat or leave it to the BJP.

The HVC had submitted a ''chargesheet'' against Virbhadra Singh to Dhumal who has, in turn, forwarded it to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
