Sex scandals rock Lord Krishna's disciples

E-Mail this report to a friend

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness is facing revolt from members. Over a series of sex scandals involving certain high-flying gurus.

Leading the agitation is Vineet Narain, who has set up the ISKCON Reform Group with branches in Australia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada.

''This revolt is taking place not only in India but all around the world,'' Narain said, pointing to Guru Loknathswami's recent rejection by his disciples for molesting a teenaged girl in the United States.

Devotees from China rejected Tamal Krishna Goswami for the ''lie he spoke about his spiritual position.''

Earlier, several self-proclaimed gurus fell from grace following serious charges of child abuse and homosexuality.

Anandswami, an Italian member, recently ran away with the daughter of an Indian diplomat presently living in Noida, while Hansdutaswami married his own disciple.

Even more questionable is ISKCON chairman Harikeshaswami's conduct: He ran away with a sex-worker, shocking thousands of disciples.

''Such acts have completely shaken the faith of disciples. The IRG is now demanding an entire review of the guru system,'' Narain said.
