Rajasthan records 35 more deathsMercury further soared to touch the 50 degree celsius mark in Rajasthan where 35 heat-related deaths were reported overnight, taking the death toll in the fortnight-long heatwave to 143. Eight more deaths each occurred in Alwar district and Kota division while five more deaths were reported from Jaipur district. Dholpur, with a maximum temperature of 50 degree celsius, accounted for four fresh deaths while three deaths due to sunstroke were reported from Bikaner and two each from Sikar and Udaipur. One death each was reported from Banswara, Jhunjhunu and Tonk districts. With this, a maximum of 32 heat-related deaths have so far been reported from Alwar this summer, followed by Kota division (24) Jaipur district (15), Jodhpur, Pali, Dholpur and Sikar districts (seven each), Barmer, Jalore and Bharatpur districts (six each), Ajmer, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk and Bikaner (three each), Bhilwara, Jhunjhunu, Ganganagar and Banswara (two each) and Dausa, Karauli and Rajsamand (one death each). Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Bharatpur had a maximum temperature of 46 degree celsius. Barmer recorded maximum temperature of 45 degree celsius followed by Chittorgarh, Dabok (Udaipur) and Jalore (44 degrees), Ajmer (43) and Banswara (41). Severe heatwave conditions also prevailed in Haryana, Northwest and Southeast Madhya Pradesh, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and in parts of the plains of West Uttar Pradesh, interior Orissa and Kutch. Heatwave conditions also prevailed in South Rajasthan, Telangana and parts of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in Kashmir, Rayalaseema, coastal Karnataka and the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and parts of Assam, Meghalaya, South Madhya Maharashtra and interior Karnataka, and were above normal in the North Gujarat, Saurashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Karnataka and in the remaining parts of interior Karnataka. They were appreciably below normal in Tripura, Bihar plains and parts of West Bengal. They were below normal in Manipur, Sikkim and Northeast Uttar Pradesh. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh and the hills of West Uttar Pradesh from where data was sparse. Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, at many places in Gangetic West Bengal, at a few places in Kerala and at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Orissa and Tamil Nadu. Very light rain occurred at isolated places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir and Lakshadweep. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, at many places in Lakshadweep, at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and in isolated places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and coastal and south interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country.
