NCW team meets gang-rape victim

National Commission for Women chairperson Mohini Giri today interrogated some witnesses and the victim of last year's J C Bose hostel gang-rape in connection with her second gang-rape on May 22.

A three-member team from the commission, comprising Giri, commission member S Hamid and legal advisor Padma Seth, today questioned the victim and three other witnesses about the alleged second gang-rape of the 27-year-old girl who was earlier gang-raped in a hostel room in the Rajasthan University campus in Jaipur on September 5,1997.

Addressing a press conference in the state capital, Giri said since the commission's inquiry was in progress she was not drawing any conclusions about the May 22 incident.

She said after arriving in the city this morning to look into four fresh incidents of rape, including this incident, the commission, besides interrogating the witnesses, also met Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Home Minister Kailash Meghwal, chief secretary Arun Kumar and director general of police Amitabh Gupta, and took stock of the rape of an OBC woman in Kela Devi town of Karauli district that allegedly involved a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party legislator, another incident of rape and the subsequent murder of a school-girl in Kota.
