Flood-hit Dhemati remains cut-off

Communication links and supply of essential commodities to the flash flood-affected Dhemati district of Assam remained snapped for the third day.

The flood waters from the Gai river washed away about one km of national highway number 52. A number of trucks carrying essential commodities have been stranded on both sides of the highway.

About 300 metres of railway track between Dhemaji and Tongani has also been washed away. The authorities are working round-the-clock to restore communication and supply of essential items.

The worst-hit areas in the district are Moridhal, Jiadhol, Machkhowa, Siripani, Sisiborgaon and Butikur.

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra river has also been rising, following heavy rains in the upper reaches. However, it is still below danger level.
