5 security personnel killed in ambush

At least five Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed on Monday morning when suspected militants ambushed a convoy in Manipur's Churachandpur district.

The victims included a sub-inspector and four constables. The incident occurred at 0615 hours, between Molenphai and Leijang villages, 7 kms north of Churachandpur, sources said.

The convoy comprised a jeep, a bus and a gypsy jeep. Before fleeing, the militants snatched away weapons from the gypsy, which had overturned. A LMG with 300 rounds of ammunition, a carbine with two magazines, an AK-47 and two SLRs with 90 rounds and 120 rounds of ammunition respectively, and four bullet-proof jackets were taken.
