Sunstroke kills 38 nationwide

The intense heat wave sweeping most parts of the country has so far claimed 38 lives this summer.

Maharashtra and Rajasthan were the worst hit, accounting for all the casualties.

On Friday, severe heat wave conditions continued to prevail in South Rajasthan.

Heat wave conditions also prevailed in Assam, Meghalaya, North Rajasthan, parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, coastal Orissa, Haryana, Punjab, Kashmir, West Madhya Pradesh and South Gujarat.

Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in parts of East Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat, North Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and in the remaining parts of Orissa and Haryana.

They were above normal in Bihar, Konkan, Goa, Vidarbha, coastal and south interior Karnataka and Kerala, and the remaining parts of East Uttar Pradesh and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

They were below normal in parts of Telangana, and normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh from where data was sparse.

Rain or thundershowers occurred at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Marathwada, at a few places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, Assam and Meghalaya, and at isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Very light rain also occurred at isolated places in West Madhya Pradesh.

Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, at a few places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and in isolated places in Arunchal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, coastal Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Tamil Nadu, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Weather will be mainly dry over the rest of the country.
