Heat wave sweeps AssamUnprecedented heat wave conditions continued to sweep Assam with the mercury soaring to 38 degree celsius, the highest-ever in the state. There was less traffic on the roads as people preferred to remain indoors. Attendance in schools was also thin. Dhubri recorded 38 degree celsius. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the next 48 hours. Severe heat wave conditions prevailed in South Rajasthan. Heat wave conditions also prevailed in Assam, Meghalaya, south coastal Orissa, North Rajasthan and in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, North Gujarat and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in Sikkim, north coastal Orissa, Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka and the remaining parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh. They were above normal in Telangana and Kerala., the remaining parts of West Madhya Pradesh and parts of Bihar plains and East Uttar Pradesh. They were markedly below normal in Manipur and parts of Rayalaseema, and appreciably below normal in the remaining parts of Rayalaseema and parts of south madhya Maharashtra and interior Karnataka. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal from where data was sparse. Thundershowers occurred at most places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, at a few places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and coastal Andhra Pradesh, and at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya and West Madhya Pradesh. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Andaman and Nicobar islands, at many places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, at a few places in Arunchal Pradesh, and at isolated places in West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Orissa, South Rajasthan, North Gujarat, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Weather will be mainly dry over the rest of the country.
