Central employees' retirement age raised to 60The Union Cabinet today decided to raise the retirement age of central government employees to 60. At present the retirement age is 58. The Cabinet also decided to raise the age of entry into service to 35. Nearly 4 million civilian employees, including those in railways, will benefit by the Cabinet decision. The Fifth Pay Commission, while submitting its report, had recommended the enhancement of the retirement age from 58 to 60. But the then United Front government headed by I K Gujral deferred a decision on this proposal, even as it accepted the main recommendation on pay scales and other financial aspects. UNI
