Fernandes claims media misquoted him on China

Defence Minister George Fernandes said on Sunday that India wanted friendly relations with all neighbouring countries, including China.

In a brief chat with newsmen at Bihta airport in Patna, the defence minister retracted his earlier statement that India faced a greater threat from China among its neighbouring countries.

Fernandes said he was misquoted by the media.

He was also the first defence minister to visit the Bihta air force station.

He was accompanied by Railway Minister Nitish Kumar and Samata Party spokesperson Digvijay Singh, MP.

Air Marshal V K Bhatia and air office commanding-in-chief, central air command, S K Bhalla, briefed the defence minister on the activities at Bihta air force station.
