New Maharashtra ministers sworn in

Two cabinet ministers and four ministers of state, inducted by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi in a reshuffle, were sworn in by Governor Dr P C Alexander at Raj Bhavan on Saturday evening.

The two cabinet ministers are Diwakar Raote, chairman of the statutory development board for Marathwada and former mayor of Bombay, and A T Pawar.

The ministers of state who took the oath of office and secrecy at the Darbar hall are Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Vijay Girkar, Prataprao Mohite-Patil, brother of senior Congress leader and former minister Vijaysingh Mohite-Patil (all Sena), Vinayakrao Korde and D B Pawar-Patil (both BJP) and Dlip Sopal (Independent).

All the ministers except Girkar took the oath in the name of god in Marathi. Girkar took oath solemnly; soon after he was sworn in, his followers raised slogans like "Babasaheb Ambedkar Vijay Aso. (May Babasaheb Ambedkar be victorious)"
