JD nominees of Lok Shakti candidate to be disqualified

The Janata Dal legislature party, which met in Bangalore today, has decided to allot 30 votes for each of the four party candidates who are contesting tomorrow's biennial election to the Karnataka legislative council from the assembly, to fill in seven vacancies, according to Chief Minister J H Patel.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, he said the party would issue a whip to all members for the election.

He, however, declined to give details on mobilising the support of MLAs from other friendly parties. State Congress party chief Dharam Singh would discuss with him later, the issue of surplus votes, he added.

He said letters would be written separately to the assembly speaker and the council chairman seeking disqualification of the party members who had signed the papers of V S Ugrappa, who was contesting on the Lok Shakti ticket. Five Janata Dal MLAs who had signed the papers were R V Deshpande, Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, P C Siddanagoudar, B R Yavagal and Venkatachalaiah.
