YSR is AP Congress chief

Congress president Sonia Gandhi today appointed Dr Y S Rajashekhar Reddy as the Andhra Pradesh Congress chief in place of Mallikarjun who has resigned.

Announcing the appointment, Congress general secretary Oscar Fernandes said the Cuddapah MP would take over with immediate effect.

Dr Reddy and Mallikarjun met the party president yesterday.

This is the second reconstitution of a state Congress unit after Orissa.
