Four hurt in community clash

Four people were seriously injured in a group clash at Kothali village in Karnataka's Belgaum district on Monday night.

Officials said people belonging to a majority community attacked a Dalit colony. They set fire to five huts and damaged 32 houses.

The injured have been admitted to the government hospital at Chikodi.

The trouble started when five Dalit boys were attacked by members of the majority community. Later, the boys, accompanied by others from their colony, retaliated, leading to the clash.

Dalits have fled the village following the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police G V Kongawad said the situation was under control. He said 45 people have been arrested in this connection. The police is camping in the village.

He said a compensation of Rs 500 have been paid to those who lost their huts.
