68 dacoits escape in sensational AP jail-breakThe superintendent, jailor and deputy jailor of the Nizamabad jail were suspended today even as efforts were on to nab the 68 convicts who had escaped in a sensational jail-break last night. Deputy Inspector-General of Police (prisons) M R Ahmed was sent to Nizamabad to investigate the incident. Some other warders are also likely to be placed under suspension, Additional Inspector-General of Police (prisons) V R Joshi said. Seventytwo convicts, mostly inter-state dacoits, lodged in the fourth barrack of the jail, had escaped by throwing chilli powder when the jail staff came to close the barrack. The prisoners attacked the five warders and ran down the hillock where the jail was located. Three of them were caught by villagers last night and another today, he added. UNI
