TMC office-bearers resign en masse

E-Mail this story to a friend

All 24 office-bearers of the Tamil Maanila Congress have submitted their resignations to party president G K Moopanar in order to give him a free hand to reorganise the party in the wake of its poor performance in the general election.

The office-bearers took the decision at a meeting held at Satyamurthy Bhavan, the party headquarters, on Saturday. The TMC won only four of the 20 seats it had contested.

TMC general secretary S G Vinayakamurthy told reporters that 16 presidents of various front organisations also submitted their resignation to Moopanar.

All 36 district presidents will also submit their resignations to Moopanar for a thorough overhaul of the party apparatus, he said, and that while some of them have already submitted their resignations, the others will do so shortly.

Moopanar said earlier that the party's performance was not satisfactory. Instead of reviewing the party's poor performance, the office-bearers took the initiative to resign, to facilitate the party president to revamp the party, he added.

The party had won all the 20 seats it had contested in the 1996 election.
