UF leaves Himachal mess for Vajpayee to handle

The Union Cabinet on Saturday deferred a decision on Himachal Pradesh Governor Rama Devi's recommendation to impose President's rule in that state.

Official sources said the Cabinet decided to leave the decision for the new government, which is expected to take charge within the next few days.

The governor, in her report to the Centre, had recommended President's rule till June 30. This follows Virbhadra Singh's resignation as chief minister before facing the vote of confidence in the House.

Of the 64 seats in the house, both the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress claims to have the support of 32 members each. The election for the remaining four seats will be held on June 21.
