Kesri discusses stepping down with Sonia

Congress president Sitaram Kesri met Sonia Gandhi today and is understood to have discussed the issue of his resignation.

Kesri drove down to Sonia's home at 10 Janpath this evening and was with her for nearly 30 minutes. The meeting assumes significance in the wake of Kesri publicly announcing his decision to quit as Congress president and hand over the mantle to Sonia.

Earlier in the day, Congress Working Committee members met at the home of party vice-president Jitendra Prasada over lunch and held informal discussions on the modalities of the changeover. Senior Congress leader K Karunakaran also met Sonia and held consultations with her.
