Cong, UF may field common candidate for speaker
The Congress and the United Front are likely to field a common candidate for the post of the speaker in the 12th Lok Sabha.
The Congress Working Committee on Tuesday authorised senior party
leader Sharad Pawar to negotiate with the UF in this
regard. Pawar would hold talks with the UF leaders
on Tuesday night.
Asked about the possibility of a non-BJP MP being elected
as speaker, Pawar said, ''If the UF is united and ready
to support a common candidate, then it is possible.''
He said P A Sangma could be one of the candidates for the post.
